GLOBAL SWITCH COMPETITION

//

Adam Norton's proposals intended to use the windows in the 50m street frontage of the Sydney headquarters of Global Switch, Harris Street, Ultimo (Sydney) as giant lightboxes to back-light a frieze of vinyl images. The building is a major data centre providing infrastructure to house the online capacity for major corporations and government agencies.

In Cosmic Trip the artist' selected a series of images derived from collaged graph paper, which conflated macro and micro to "explore the nature of matter through the medium of drawing: an imagined cosmology of three-dimensional space and time explored through the two-dimensional use of grid, line and colour."

In Blueprint the artist worked with eight images from the Cartography series of drawings, mostly based on found images, which "trace the evolution of our world and our understanding of it."

Both proposals intended to reflect on "the impact of technology on the world and our changing place within it" as the primary conceptual link with the context of the site and function of the building/Global Switch.
